Birthday party: a night at the movies

After considering many party themes, Adam finally decided on and got very excited about "a night at the movies." This meant we got to use the cool movie theater room in the basement, popcorn that Adam's pretty much obsessed with, and other fun ideas that we got kinda carried away with. Cousins even came up to spend the night! Thanks guys, we all had a great time!

Bonnie, Libby, Adam, and Nate with a little pre-party swimming

Now to spend some time with Jack and Sadie

Let's get this party started!! The kids lined up at the ticket booth, "paid" for their ticket, and were escorted down the red carpet to theater #6 (get it? 'cuz he's 6 now?! right) to watch the movie "Despicable Me". Great flick.

The candy counter. Way too much sugar going around that room!

And of course Aimee volunteered to be our professional popcorn server:)

Movie time. The easiest party of the party!

Ever since we made his cousin James one for his birthday a couple of years ago, Adam's been really wanting a volcano cake. At first I tried to see if he wanted something that went along with the theme a little better, but who's to challenge the birthday boy?! So here's our volcano cake, complete with red candy "lava" shooting out. Oh, and little confetti mini volcanoes with lava too, of course. Oh, also in the pic was one of Adam's favorite gifts: cotton candy machine! This was awesome! And so easy. Heat it up, throw in some sugar OR a piece of hard candy (genius!), and out comes your cotton candy! It was a hit.

Adam was spoiled rotten! We had so much fun and are so grateful for the school friends, church friends, cousins, aunts, and uncles who were able to join us!! Oh yeah, the kids were invited to come dressed as their favorite movie character,...and they did! They had such a fun time with it. Adam's been watching some of the Harry Potter movies lately, so that's who he chose to be. By the time this picture came around, though, the costume had long-since been shed.

Even Nacho took a little dip

Oh yeah, Pebbles and Bam Bam made an appearance as well... though Bam Bam's costume didn't quite get finished in time. Oh well, we did our best with the time we had that day.

My most anticipated part of the evening was a certain special surprise delivery. I'd told Adam that he still had one more surprise, but it was something he'd have to wait to be delivered. It got here just before the party was supposed to start, and my friend Wendy helped me give it a quick wrap so Adam could come out and open it up...

Surprise! My sister Karin actually took this pic, so it's from behind (I need to track down the after pictures that I took). It's a visit from Karin and her kids! Her 3 oldest were SO excited to surprise Adam on his birthday. All 3 of them hopped in this wardrobe box, I did a quick wrapping of the top and called him out to open his big surprise that was finally delivered. The kids jumped out and I could just see the shock, confusion, and joy on his face. Karin drove all the way from Idaho to spend a few days with us and I almost couldn't keep it a surprise from Adam. I'm so glad we did, though; he was totally shocked! We have a video of it; it was great. The best surprise of the day, according to Adam:)

There's that cotton candy! Not that the kids needed any more sugar...

Sadie and Joseph, actually happily sharing!

Again, thank you everyone for the great night! Every person there made it extra special and just the perfect night for Adam. Couldn't wipe the smile off his face for days!

Happy Birthday to our Adam!!

Yeah, our little man finally turned 6 years old. We had a fun morning with breakfast and presents before Daddy had to run to work.

Breakfast of choice? Bacon, sausage, eggs, and orange juice. Like father, like son.

I can't even describe how much I love this little guy. He's funny, so smart, talented, thoughtful, loving, silly, helpful, hilarious, and I just can't get enough of him!

First surgery

Adam went in for oral surgery this month. Check out this X-ray and you'll see why... (notice that extra tooth up top!)

In the room preparing to go under

Luckily Guy was able to stay in there with them to observe the procedure. It definitely helped calm Adam's (and my) nerves. I had to sit out the in waiting room:( Everything went well with the tooth extraction. The doctor also removed a mucocele in his lower lip and did a frenectomy. Traumatized mouth, but he was doing great after a day or two of recovery. He did amazing!

New clinic grand opening

We opened a new clinic at Guy's work, about 45 minutes away. This is actually where he works most of the time these days and he really enjoys it (though we don't love the commute time;). The grand opening was totally over-the-top with the docs in the dunking tank, bounce houses, hot dogs, snow cones, popcorn, face painting, a local radio station, firefighters, and other fun stuff. Adam had a blast dunking his dad in the tank... just on his 2nd or third try!

So proud;) Fun times!

Family Reunion, day 3: Provo River and birthday party!

I thought the Provo River was such a great idea. I'd lived in Utah for years but never been on it. So half of the crew took rafts on the river, while the other half did the aquarium (lucky for us, there were some aunts and cousins who wanted a little extra Jack and Sadie time, so they got to visit the aquarium with them. Thanks again everyone!:) The run down the river was actually very mild and the babies would've been fine on it, but I guess better safe than sorry.

Adam, Nate, and Sarah getting in a little extra water time after the rafting experience (I didn't get any "before" pictures, unfortunately)

Hannah and Max

Aunt Ruth and Uncle Dennis... some of our competitors in the race down the river! Personally, I think they were the most coordinated of the crew when it came to steering;)

Ammon with Aunt Ruthie

One more raft made it to shore, well done!

The whole lot of us... we survived!

After everyone cleaned up a bit from the morning activities, we met at Doug and Tracy's for the annual "birthday party"... Yep, 77 of us made up that reunion! Crazy! This cake was curtesy of Ruth. Delish.

Laura did an amazing job on the kids cake too!

F-u-n hanging out in the backyard

Katie, Hannah, and Aimee: s'more time!

Adam definitely got his fill

The mosquitos got a little too friendly so we packed it inside to watch a movie

Thanks everyone for an amazing reunion. Fun times and great memories!!
